Methadone Fees Class Action

The Methadone Clinic Fees Class Action has settled.  Court approval of the settlement was granted on February 1, 2018.

The settlement agreement requires the Province of British Columbia to repay 70% of all methadone clinic fees deducted from income assistance or disability assistance payments after November 4, 2009, plus interest.

If you are not currently receiving income or disability assistance, you will need to register for payment by contacting class counsel on or before February 15, 2019. 

Payments to persons currently receiving income or disability assistance are made by cheque or direct deposit, but monthly payments will be on a different date than your usual payments.  Payments will be a maximum of $150 a month until the entire amount owing to each class member is repaid.

Payments to eligible class members who are receiving income assistance or disability assistance payments commenced June 13, 2018.  The second payment is scheduled for July 11, 2018, but please allow 5-7 days for delivery of cheques and electronic funds transfers.

You will need to confirm your identity to complete the registration. You need not have photo ID to be eligible for payment.

Payments owed to persons who are deceased will be put into a fund to be used to benefit persons on methadone or other opioid treatment. The fund will be administered by the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users for the benefit of persons receiving methadone or other opiate agonist treatment. If you are the executor or administrator of the estate of a deceased class member, you can register have the settlement funds paid directly to the estate.
